Sylvia Elphinstone

" Lady of Millott "

She dances like fog. Steamy as atmospheric heat and the cold river water meet. The Bridgewater Jerry. Powering on from her homeland. Anywhere but there. In this new place of freshly painted wrought iron and hedges she lights candles. Applies lipstick. In winter she wakes sometimes to fog, and I wonder what she thinks about.

ABOUT THE ARTIST

Sylvia Elphinstone. A multimedia artist. I enjoy juxtaposition. A mixer of mediums (painting, photography and collage). I like to mix darkness and light. Darkness and light mixes not only in colour but in topics (life after all is made up of darkness and light in equal measure). Art is a continual journey for me. I run from it but return to its safe embrace.
My awakening to the power of art came from sitting in art class in a small school in Bushy Park (Glenora) and being taught by the great Tasmanian artist David Keeling. I learnt that “art is everywhere”……a concept I found comforting when life became dark. Art seeps into my life at all times. From a love of fashion and design to looking at colours and textures in natural light and nature.
