Alice in Wonderland

Charlies Blackman was an Australian artist, born in 1928 and died at the age of 90 in 2018. Blackman is renowned for his artworks based on Lewis Carroll’s story Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland, written in 1865. Blackman’s former wife Barbara (née Patterson) promoted his interest in the book and is depicted in the artwork series as Alice. His introduction to the story via audiobook kindled Blackman’s interest in surrealism and painting dreams. He created many artworks in this series, depicting Alice and the anthropomorphic White Rabbit, juxtaposed with imagery of belongings from Blackman’s own home.
