Salvador Dalí’s use of gold dust in his Hippies suite to celebrate connection with the cosmos and soul

Salvador Dalí’s Hippies suite was published by Graphic Europa Anstalt and is in a total edition of 245 prints plus 24 proofs. Many of the etchings are hand coloured or contain gold dust.

For Dalí, gold represented an opportunity to connect with the cosmos and to celebrate one’s soul. The artist used gold in artworks including sculpture and jewellery, however gold dust was used in many works on paper.

dAda mUse’s collection of the Hippies suite is magnificently framed in gold, replicating Dalí’s fascination. Some of the prints are scarce and the series includes artworks based on various themes including perspective and place.

Salvador Dalí’s Hippies suite is on display on the lower floor of dAda mUse from September 2023 to January 2024.
