ABOUT THE POEM
Poem reflecting on objects (the things we collect and surround ourselves with) and memory (which is unreliable) and legacy (the notion we are important to the future).
Curated
A man walks into a room…
Tell me your story,
the other man says.
Show me the things
of your life –
trinkets, photos, notes.
Show me, what did you bring?
Let me gaze upon the evidence
of your memories,
a life lived.
Tell me the stories
for this and
that.
Together we will curate
the history and
accompanying meaning
for your mementoes.
I will catalogue
for the analogue library
to display for the
future viewer
who you were.
Words and things.
Not necessarily truth
but a curated account
for imagining your history
before this room.
