Ivy Anaconda

This Surrealist, readymade sculpture ( by the time I came across it over 5 years ago ) comprises ivy-gripped metal piping. I have stripped back the branches to the strongest, sleekest trunks to achieve a more serpentine feel; while allowing viewers to access a close look at Ivy constricting her prey.

This piece showcases mankind's efforts ( a pipe from my friend's house ) ripped from the side of his house over decades of persistence from Mother Nature, then hacked off by by friend! The result is striking, the complimentary contrast hopefully captures viewers' imaginations and leaves them with a feeling of awe.

To me, Ivy Anaconda is a visual depiction of the futility of mankind's effort to dominate the natural world, reminding us that this earth will continue long after out demise and most manmade artefacts have crumbled to dust.
