Musings (Triptych)

ABOUT THE POEM

Poetry triptych on warped card.

3 poems written in the course of a morning. Time passing...Reflecting ends and beginnings when there is more to do, the obsession of social media and voyeurism that invades time and private space, and the urgency from running out of time.

7:10am

Wheat
A haze of nodding heads
cast gold
The labourer’s course palms
clasp together
problem solving
An artisan, wisdom
Steeped in fingertips
templed forming solutions.
Long gazes
Deep thoughts
Ponderous breath.
A barking black and white
mutt welcomes a new day
wagging.
It’s another day
Any other day
Warm, breeze, dreamy
potential.
No such day
No such artisan
Anymore.

10:44am

Nothing to do,
feet up on the couch
cuppa in hand
Indulgent
Quiet
Scrolling
Watching, learning,
numbing
Flashes of images
not easily forgotten
Other people’s lives
the highs
lows
facades
How they relax
Indulge
Performative
Voyeuristic
Magazines, newspapers
replaced by gossip in real time.
Shut the curtains
Hide in a doona tent
Unseen and free.

11:15am

Tick
Tick
Tick
Watch the clock
Watch a daffodil
on a window sill
Yellowing, ageing
Eat a biscuit
Hurry the day
Wish it away
Stop!
Wait!
Capture time
Fine dine and wine
Wait
Stop
Not enough minutes
Tick
Tick
More time
Candle light flickers
More
time.
