Perfectionless

ABOUT THE POEM

Handwritten poem prompted out of a response to submitting a poem in the Dada Muse poetry competition, 10 mins earlier. It includes the edit from a quick first draft. In a way similar to automatic writing, as the immediate response to the overwhelm and vulnerability of submitting a poem for others to consume.

Perfectionless

My hand is unsteady
My writing is messy
Let me type instead.
I am ashamed
at a lack of
rightness, correctness,
perfection.
I fear criticism so
I refrain from my
heart’s creative pursuits
For fear of mass
criticism
Preference for mass
production
Soulless perfection
is better than
personal rejection
But
If I find enough
like minded appreciators
My imperfection is perfect.
