Resist Erasure

ABOUT THE PIECE

Resist Erasure explores the fragile boundary between presence and absence in queer identity. Housed in a frame reclaimed from a church, creating a vessel for reflection, reimagination and resilience. A saint-like figure, draped in purples and maroons symbolic of royalty, religious ioncography and drag, runs through an expansive skyscape that echoes the sacred atmosphere of Dalí's later cathedrals. As they move forward, pigment bleeds from their face and body, yielding to the white of the page. The blank space transitions into erasure made visible.

The repeated words "resist, resist, resist," along with affirmations like "queer joy", "love is love" and the names of those remembered, interrupt the dreamlike landscape. The genderless figure stands as a contemporary icon, carrying forward histories of those who came before, holding death and standing with those still at risk of erasure.

Viewers explore a space where memory and resistance coexist, in a seemingly never-ending march.
