ABOUT THE ARTIST
Francis is a multidisciplinary artist whose work is an ever evolving process of exploration and acceptance of the human body and spirit. Through his usage of striking colour-palettes, intricately blended figures and recurring forms, Francis works to illustrate the contrasting depths of the essence, psyche, depravity and beauty of humanity as reflected in himself and the world around him.
ABOUT THE ARTIST
Drawn from Francis' own experience coming to terms with physical disability, 'Stairway to Heaven' invites the viewer to examine the isolation and grief associated with becoming physically disabled and chronically ill in a society where disabled people are often deemed worthless and disposable. The work's gritty, lumbering journey, towards the looming finality of the staircase gives voice to often shunned acceptance of the fragility and limits of the human body and the existential nature of reconciling ourselves with the duality of our expansive inner worlds and finite physical presence.
