Substrata

ABOUT THE ARTIST

I am an emerging visual artist currently studying Fine Arts at the University of Tasmania. My practice explores the human figure, embodiment and psychological interiority.

ABOUT THE PIECE

Substrata is a 19.6 × 14.7 cm copperplate etching with drypoint and chine-collé.

The originating image emerged during an altered state within a Sufi healing practice addressing childhood trauma. It captures, through symbolic form, the complex consequences of a traumatic childhood environment for the formation of selfhood, and the capacity of altered states to bring difficult truths into conscious encounter. Body, memory and the imaginal become entangled within a shifting field of organic forms.
