ABOUT THE PIECE
The Great Balloon Race is a very popular title for various hot air balloon artworks. Mary Neely, a 20th Century American artist is known for depicting an annual hot air ballooning race at the Kentucky Derby. There is also a reproduction attributed to an artist by the name of 'Bach'. More widely known perhaps is a studio album by progressive rock band Sky in 1985, which features classical influences tied to composers like Johann Sebastian Bach.
This is a celebration of the casual magic of brightly coloured spheres floating through the sky combined with the whimsy of fastastic balloons with unlikely pilots at their helm.
