The work 'Beatrice and Dante in Purgatory' references Dali's interpretation of Dante's Divine Comedy but is painted in Phillips' contemporary expressionist style. The narrative depicts Dante's meeting with his idealised love Beatrice at the higher levels of Purgatory, where she attacks him for his sinful ways, but guides him towards spiritual growth.
