The Biblia Sacra was commissioned by Giuseppe and Mara Albaretto, who became close friends of Dali and collectors of his work. The two were inclined to grow Dali's relationship with religion and believed this commission would do so. This commission provided an intriguing quest as Dali considered himself an atheist yet his mother was a strict catholic.
'Bulletism' was a method of creating spontaneous spots of ink in which was implementing within the Biblia Sacra. Dali in particular used an old rifle called a blunderbuss.
