Charlies Blackman was an Australian artist, born in 1928 and died at the age of 90 in 2018. His series of artworks depicting schoolgirls present ideas of innocence and solitude to the viewer. Schoolgirl and rabbit intersect his schoolgirl series with Blackman’s Alice in Wonderland series, representing Alice and the White Rabbit from Lewis Carroll’s 1865 book Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland. Blackman drew numerous versions of this artwork throughout his career.
