Salvador Dalí’s mythology series consists of 16 artworks depicting scenes from Greek legends. Some of the etchings are highlighted with aquatint or gilding. The Mythology – Argus and is printed on Japon paper.
Argus was a monster with many eyes. Known as the all-seeing giant, he used his eyes to spy on and guard the Greek gods and goddesses.
Dalí’s artwork depicts the fate of Argus. He was appointed by the goddess Hera, the wife of Zeus, to spy on her husband’s mistress Io. Upon discovering this, Zeus ordered Hermes to slay Argus, before which Hera transformed Argus’ eyes into the tail of a peacock.
