Dali has imposed himself over Bartolomeo Veneto's 1520 Portrait of a Woman.
Although still under dispute, the identity of this titular "Woman" is speculated to be Lucrezia Borgia, an Italian noblewoman, socialite, and political powerhouse of the late 1400s. Her legacy as host of grand parties and social dramas saw her cast as a character in numerous stories, and even an opera.
Some question if Veneto's painting is even of a woman at all - stating apparent physiological features as being "more masculine." His choice addition of floral motifs and tulle veil put such arguments to rest.
