From Dali:

"Against Pornography and Obscenity, for the God Eros and Eroticism.

Perhaps, and perhaps not, the greatest difference between eroticism and pornography is that eroticism is divine and brings good fortune, while pornography is subhuman and brings bad luck. The Romans knew this, they being experts in eroticism, whose language gives the word 'obscenus' the meaning of 'bad omen'. Eroticism is on the side of those who wear ties, the rich. It is the side of the gods, of the eagles!"

Dali's feature image is of Antonio Casanova's sculpture, "Psyche Revived by Cupid's Kiss" - finished 1793. It is currently housed at the Louvre, Paris.

In mythology, Cupid - son of Venus - is the god of Erotic Love and Desire. Psyche is his immortal wife. Their relationship is explored through "The Golden Ass" ( also called "Metamorphoses" ) - a story written in the 2nd Century AD by Apuleius, a philosopher of the time.

'Psyche' can be translated to mean 'soul' or 'spirit' and is often associated with the butterfly - its transformation a common allegory in literature, representing growth and overcoming hardship. Psyche, Cupid's wife, is typically featured with butterfly-wings.
